Twin stick shooting. Fireworks. Colours, Lasers, Alien space things. We Are Doomed is insane!
The indie shooter from Vertex Pop is pretty intense. I sat down to see what it was all about and was in the game within seconds. It's down as one of the games strong points which is true.
It's a typical, simple to pick up difficult to master game. One stick for movement, one stick for your weapon - the classic set up. The game is intuitive and feels like an extension of your fingertips which makes it even more frustrating a jarring when you make a mistake. I'm not sure if I'm just not very good at the game or if the enemies are a bit unfair but I got caught out on more than one occasion in a heavy WTF moment. I played on PS4 which felt responsive enough for my needs.
For me the strongest asset of the game are its visuals. It's great to see something so bright and unashamedly colourful. The main enemy is green quid with purple tentacles, the explosions are pink and the first ships fire orange bombs. It's gorgeous.
It's very attentive game which can last a few minutes or (quite literally) forever. It's hard though and in my hours of gameplay I could barely reach level 13 of 30. The mentality is definitely "one more go", reinforced by a load time that takes a split second!
For me the games price point of £7.99 is a little high for someone who might be interested taking a leap of faith. This game should appeal to fans of the genre without a doubt. I think anyone can have fun with this game but I question it's accessibility for the average gamer. Probably best avoid it if you're epileptic though - have I mentioned how crazy it is?
