In Destiny's biggest update yet, the infamous voice of Peter Dinklage has been replaced with veteran voice over artist Nolan North. It's a poor move.
In a pseudo plot from Game of Thrones, the North has well and truly dethroned The Lannister's from their proverbial Ghost throne.
I've always had a soft spot for Dinklebot, perhaps drawn from watching Game of Thrones, but I always thought his voice performance as Ghost was pretty good. On hearing that Nolan North would be redoing all of his lines I was very open to it. Given the credits list he has (Nathan Drake, Desmond Miles, Penguin & Edward Richtofen to name a few) he is one of the go-to guys along with Troy Baker - there is no doubting his talent.
The problem is not that North has done a bad job voicing Ghost, it's just that it completely changes the game for me. Peter's voice acting was, quite aptly, robotic. It did not fail to emit emotion but it was always clinical & judgemental. North's Ghost is more human, spoken like a crushed up Nathan Drake with a bit more American thrown in.
Was Dinklage that bad he had to be removed from the game? What do you think? Who played Ghost better? Check out the video from IGN below to see direct comparisons.
It's been reported and accecpted that this is mainly down to Peter's availability although I would like to have an option to keep him for the existing lines of dialogue.
The Taken King is out next week and has seemingly endless editions to choose from.
